The art of persuasion.

"Virtue a fig!"

Not a nice man.

Personal Feedback

My rehearsing and realisation of the text has been good, I have complemented this with a through appreciation of the performance’s demands and what was required to develop my understanding about what acting is and what my process is. I am able to develop material for performance with true actor’s vigour and creativity, underlying my process with honesty and discovery. I was were held back by my partner not knowing lines early enough and I’m not sure how much of my scene was created through instinctual responses.
Even so, I think my performance was excellent and I used a broad variety of objectives to meet the scene’s needs with vocal clarity and effective movement. Again though I was held back by not being able to work on this scene professionally and it meant along with some rather odd acting decisions that my scene was not as fully realised as it could’ve been.
My log needs to be compiled more clearly, a contents sheet or something to explain the structure. it was a decent logbook but I need to organise it and now start to add more evaluative comments and rigorous detail.

Three Sisters Character Impro Notes

Irina Serghyeevna
She's looking for love. Tuzenbach and Solyony are both in love with her and thus fight about this.
Youthful and playful. She is representative of the future and the virgin.

Masha Serghyeevna
The quiet one. She is married to Kulyghin, bitter about her marriage, grown apart from him because of her greater intelligence. In love with Vershinin. She is representative of the present and the mother.

Olga Serghyeevna
She is representative of past and the crone.

Vasilly Vassilich SOLYONY
He is a Captain in the army, though he embodies many evil and sadistic qualities. He's jealous and shy person. Shows off to the point of embarrassment when faced with social situations. A dueler and defender for  Irina.

Nikolai Lvovich TUZENBACH
A Lieutenant in the Army. He is warm, loyal and honest. He also philosophizes. He is a lover, not a fighter.

Ivan Romanych CHEBUTYKIN
A failed army doctor. Fights with alcoholism. He idolizes Irina.

The approach to devising.

The production is based on the idea of presenting a jazz-riff on the ideas and concerns of the original play.

Like a jazz improvisation, the performance is different every time.

The show is semi-improvised. Only lines from the original play text are used, but the actors can say them in any order and repeat them or break them up according to the action.

As the show is improvised, the actors must respond to what they give each other in the moment. This is how the sense of ‘liveness’ is created on stage.
